Drink now through to 2024. No need to decant before serving. Owned by Gabriella Burlotto and Franco Bianco, the Castello di Verduno estate is based around the charming 16th century castle in the village of Verduno right by the Barolo wine region. As well as top quality Barolos and Barbarescos, the winery also produces limited quantities of stunning Langhe Nebbiolo. The grapes are sourced from the estate’s 0.89 hectare Nebbiolo vineyard and are harvested by hand and farmed organically. Following the harvest the grapes are carefully sorted and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Then the wine is transferred to large Slavonian oak botti where it matures for 6 months. The finished wine is bottled without filtration and allowed to rest in the bottle for three months before release. The result is a lively red that opens with classic Nebbiolo aromas of red cherries, violets and roses. On the palate there is a vibrant acidity to provide balance to the ripe red fruit character and sweet baking spice hints from the oak ageing. This is a very easy to drink wine with smooth tannins and a rich texture that would pair well with a herby roasted chicken or pork chops.
