Rising 1,650 feet above the Napa Valley floor on the southwest side of Howell Mountain, the Mondavi family estate vineyard producing the grapes for this wine sits above the fog line during the growing season. The distinctive climate, along with volcanic and iron-rich red soils, produce fruit with great balance and intensity. This wine displays aromas of cigar, tobacco leaf, black tea leaf, pomegranate, black cherry, with hints of blueberry and blackberry pie. It has lush and creamy tannins, with a finish of brown sugar and molasses. This sports dark and winey cassis and plum reduction notes, with a brushstroke of tar in the mix as well. Echoes of sweet bay and violet fill in on the finish, along with a curl of alder smoke. Offers grip and nice cut, with a well of fruit in reserve. Best from 2027 through 2040. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reserve Howell Mountain comes from the family's Cold Springs Vineyard on Howell Mountain, around 1,650 feet above sea level. Scents of mocha, pine needles and black cherries appear on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is nicely rounded and supple, then shows more depth and firmness on the long, velvety finish. Sweetened, ripe black fruits with sprinkles of spice, pine, and dusty earth flavor this generous red wine. The tannins are characteristically powder fine while abundant.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
