Château Fonplégade Saint‑Émilion Grand Cru Classé is a refined and expressive red Bordeaux from the right bank, showcasing the classic elegance and complexity of the Saint‑Émilion terroir. Crafted by the historic estate on limestone‑ and clay‑influenced soils, the wine marries concentrated fruit with minerality and a graceful structure, reflecting meticulous vineyard work and traditional winemaking practices.

Vineyards

The grapes are sourced from the estate’s 27 parcels across approximately 18.5 ha of limestone‑ and clay‑rich soils on the Saint‑Émilion plateau, where deep, well‑drained ground combined with organic and biodynamic farming promotes concentration and phenolic ripeness. Hand‑farmed vines, including some of the oldest on the estate, contribute to the wine’s depth and complexity.

Winemaking

Harvested by hand and fermented with native yeasts, the wine is aged for around 16–20 months in a combination of French oak barrels (about 50 % new and 30 % once‑used), concrete egg vessels and amphorae. This diverse ageing regime integrates oak influence while preserving purity of fruit and structure.

Tasting Notes

Château Fonplégade displays a deep, rich colour with a sophisticated minerality and velvety texture. Aromas of ripe dark berries, black cherry and plum are complemented by floral and subtle spice notes, while the palate offers a harmonious balance of juicy fruit, soft tannins and elegant structure, finishing long and refined with mineral tension. Enjoy with Pairs beautifully with roast lamb, braised beef, game dishes, and aged cheeses that accentuate its depth and refined tannins. Grape Predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc.

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
