The Château Maucoil Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Rouge is an outstanding organic wine, rich and concentrated yet beautifully balanced. Plush blackberry fruit, savoury spice, and fine tannins come together in an elegant, long-lasting finish.

Meet the Producer

With roots stretching back centuries, Château Maucoil (pronounced moh-kwahl ) is one of the most historic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Situated on the left bank of the Rhône, its vineyards lie across the appellation’s four main soil types, with a significant portion on sand – a rarity that brings finesse and freshness to the wines. The estate is fully organic, and its old vines, averaging over 40 years of age, dig deep into the soils to thrive even in hot summers.

Production

The Tradition Rouge is crafted from Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, sourced exclusively from sandy parcels. Low yields of around 25 hl/ha ensure concentration and character. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted by variety and parcel before fermentation in concrete vats. After about 30 days of maceration, the wines are aged separately in concrete tanks and seasoned oak barrels before blending and bottling.

Tasting Notes

This organic Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows deep colour and enticing aromas of blackberry, dried fruit and dark roast coffee. The palate is powerful yet fresh, with layers of plush berry fruit, savoury spice, ripe tannins and an impressively long finish. Food Match A perfect partner for hearty dishes such as beef casserole or a rich mushroom risotto. Grape Varieties Grenache Noir 60%, Syrah 15%, Mourvèdre 15%, Cinsault 10%

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
