The description below is the retailer’s own wording.

An Alsatian winemaker who fell in love with South Africa, Julien Schaal has joined forces with Gordon Newton Johnson to run the ‘Born of Fire’ vineyard, situated less than 40 km from the ocean, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate, and certified organic. Julien produces high-quality wines there that express the terroir, by fostering positive interactions between the soil, climate and vines, whilst preserving the wine’s minerality and freshness as much as possible. The result is a Chenin Blanc with notes of mango, papaya and dried lemon, alongside stony and floral hints. The palate is deep and complex, with a marvellous balance between tropical fruit, spicy oak and a delicate peppery touch. The long finish is both bright and creamy. As the vineyard was planted in 1986, this wine now holds ‘Old Vine’ certification.
