With this Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, the Mazzei family pays tribute to their illustrious ancestor Ser Lapo, author of the first official document mentioning ‘Chianti wine’ (in 1398), reproduced at the top of the label. Produced by the Castello di Fonterutoli estate in its historic vineyard in Castellina in Chianti, in the southern part of the Chianti Classico region, this exceptional Riserva bears witness to the expertise of the Mazzei family, who have been rooted in the Tuscan winemaking tradition for six generations. A pure expression of the local Sangiovese grape variety, grown on clay-limestone soils and blended with a touch of Merlot, the Ser Lapo 2023 is aged for 12 months in small French oak barrels (50 per cent of which are new). On the nose, it offers aromas of ripe fruit and flowers, with delicate earthy, smoky and spicy notes. With a full-bodied and rich texture, on the palate it displays well-integrated acidity and relatively light tannins, combined with mineral and stony flavours. A historic Chianti Riserva, which immediately reveals its potential, in the tradition of fine Tuscan red wines.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
