Bodegas El Nido was founded in 2002 as part of a visionary quality wine project by Miguel Gil in the Valle de la Aragona, Jumilla. Focused entirely on creating authentic, expressive wines from old-vine Monastrell and carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery has become one of Spain’s most celebrated addresses for serious, age-worthy reds. High-altitude vineyards and a long growing season contribute freshness, ripe tannins, and exceptional concentration to every wine in the range.
Why You'll Love It
Clió is El Nido’s entry point into this exceptional estate — and what an entry point it is. Full-bodied, concentrated, and built to impress, it combines the raw power of old-vine Monastrell with the structure and elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon in a way that few Spanish reds at this level can match. Twenty-four months in new French and American oak adds layers of complexity without masking the wine’s vibrant, ripe fruit character. This is Jumilla at its most ambitious and compelling.
Vineyard & Production
Grapes are sourced from high-altitude old-vine Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Valle de la Aragona, Jumilla, where the long growing season and significant diurnal temperature variation build exceptional ripeness and freshness simultaneously. Harvest is carried out by hand in small baskets to prevent bruising, followed by careful selection. Fermentation and maceration extract depth and structure, before the wine spends 24 months ageing in new French and American oak barrels to build complexity and refine the tannins.
Tasting Notes
Dark cherry red in colour, with an intense and captivating nose of ripe cassis, toasted coffee, and liquorice. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, revealing spicy, smoky fruit, savoury undertones, and firm but elegant tannins — all held together with impressive finesse and depth. A wine that rewards both immediate enjoyment and further cellaring.

Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
