Coto de Imaz Rioja Reserva is a refined expression of Tempranillo from the limestone-rich clay soils of El Coto’s vineyards in Cenicero, Rioja Alta, where hand-picked grapes benefit from ideal ripening conditions and excellent natural acidity. The grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks with up to 18 days of maceration and frequent pump-overs, followed by at least 18 months ageing in American oak barrels and a further 18 months in bottle, resulting in a wine of elegance, depth, and balance with a velvety texture and complex aromas.
Meet the Producer
El Coto, founded in 1970 in Rioja Alavesa, has grown into one of the region’s most respected producers, with over 730 hectares of vineyards across Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental. Head winemaker César Fernández oversees all aspects of production, emphasizing careful grape handling, temperature control, and precise winemaking to ensure quality and consistency.
Production
Grapes are hand-harvested into 35kg crates to preserve integrity and transported to the winery for fermentation in stainless steel tanks with 18 days of maceration. The wine is aged for at least 18 months in American oak barrels and then further refined in the bottle for a minimum of 18 months to achieve complexity, structure, and smoothness.

Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
