The El Nido DO Jumilla is an intense, voluptuous, and complex red from Jumilla. Rich and multi-layered, it delivers opulent ripe fruit, delicate wild berries, and subtle aromatic notes, balanced by structure and finesse for a long, lingering finish.

Meet the Producer

Bodegas El Nido, founded by Miguel Gil in 2002 alongside Bodegas Juan Gil, is one of Jumilla’s most ambitious quality wine projects. The winery focuses on old-vine Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon, producing expressive, elegant wines with power and depth. High-altitude vineyards and meticulous vineyard management ensure outstanding concentration and finesse.

Production

Grapes are sourced from 12 hectares of old Cabernet Sauvignon (average yield 2,400 kg/ha) and 32 hectares of 65-year-old Monastrell (average yield 1,600 kg/ha). The harvest involves multiple passes to select only the ripest bunches, with grapes picked into small baskets to prevent bruising. Monastrell is harvested in late September, Cabernet in early October. Grapes undergo fermentation in small open vats for 7 days, followed by basket pressing and completion of fermentation in new French and American oak barrels. The wine is aged for 24 months in new oak, adding complexity and structure.

Tasting Notes

Intensely concentrated, with opulent, ripe fruit and unrestrained richness, complemented by delicate wild berry fruit, subtle aromatics, and fine structure. Layered and elegant, this is a wine for contemplation – a true vino da meditazione. Food Match Pairs beautifully with rich red meats, including beef steaks, lamb, venison, and wild boar sausages, or other robust, full-flavoured dishes. Grape Varieties Monastrell 70%, Cabernet Sauvignon 30%

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
