False Bay Bush Vine Pinotage is a richly fruited yet savoury South African red made from low-yielding, unirrigated bush vines in Stellenbosch. Crafted with wild yeast fermentation and aged in large French oak foudres, this wine delivers depth, freshness, and complexity, balancing vibrant black fruits with smoky, savoury undertones. A more restrained and elegant style of Pinotage, it reflects its coastal terroir with authenticity and finesse.

Meet the Producer

False Bay Vineyards is an independent company founded by Paul Boutinot of Waterkloof. With a philosophy of creating ‘real’ wines, the estate focuses on sustainable farming and minimal intervention winemaking to produce authentic, expressive wines that showcase South Africa’s coastal vineyards.

Production

The grapes are sourced from a single, unirrigated bush vine vineyard planted in 1996 in Stellenbosch, where cooler coastal influences help preserve freshness. Small, concentrated berries are hand-harvested and fermented spontaneously with wild yeast. The wine is then matured in large French oak foudres, enhancing texture and savoury complexity without overt oak character. Vegan friendly, with no additions other than sulphur.

Tasting Notes

Food Match Excellent with pork belly, barbecued meats, boerewors, game dishes, or a comforting plate of sausage and mash. Grape Varieties Pinotage 100%

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
