Funkstille Zweigelt is a lively, expressive and joyfully drinkable Austrian red crafted in collaboration with a 16th-generation producer in Niederosterreich, celebrating the character and freshness of Austria's most widely planted native red grape. Vibrant, fruit-forward and effortlessly approachable, this is Zweigelt at its most charming.

Why You'll Love It

Funkstille's philosophy is simple: wines that are joyful, approachable and deeply connected to their origin. Working with a family that has been farming the same vineyards for 16 generations, they combine meticulous viticultural practices with thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking at an energy-neutral winery. The result is a Zweigelt of real freshness, purity and character that over-delivers at its price point and is impossible not to enjoy.

Vineyard & Production

Zweigelt grapes are sourced from carefully selected south-facing vineyards in Niederosterreich, optimally exposed to sunlight for full ripeness and bright fruit character. Canopy management is meticulously conducted to balance leaf density, promote airflow and maintain healthy, high-quality fruit. Harvest takes place in mid-October at ideal maturity. At the energy-neutral winery, grapes undergo a five-day cold soak before fermentation begins, with twice-daily pump-overs for the first ten days extracting colour and flavour, followed by five further days on the skins. The wine is matured in large old wooden barrels of 5,000 to 8,000 litres, with 10% aged in 2 to 3 year-old barriques, before blending and bottling.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant red cherry, juicy plum and lively berry aromas, complemented by a subtle hint of spice. Medium-bodied with silky, ripe tannins, fresh, fruit-forward and effortlessly drinkable, offering pure pleasure in every sip.

Perfect Pairings

An ideal companion for roasted duck, pork and barbecued meats. Also excellent with charcuterie, grilled vegetables and hearty pasta dishes.

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
