Godessa Agiorgitiko is a soft, expressive Greek red wine from Cavino Winery, a family-owned estate founded in 1958 on the slopes of Aigialia in the Peloponnese. Sourced from vineyards in Nemea and across the Peloponnese highlands, it showcases the silky, fruit-driven character that makes Agiorgitiko one of Greece's most beloved native red varieties. Unoaked and approachable, it is a wine built for the table.

Why You'll Love It

Agiorgitiko is often called the Merlot of Greece , and it is easy to see why. Velvety tannins, ripe red fruit, and a soft, lingering finish make it immediately appealing and endlessly food-friendly. Cavino's Godessa expression keeps things fresh and unoaked, letting the variety's natural charm shine through without the weight of barrel ageing. At this price, it is one of the most reliable everyday reds from the Mediterranean.

Vineyard & Production

The vineyards are located on the slopes and highlands of Nemea and other parts of the Peloponnese, where warm days and cool nights allow grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Clay, loam, and limestone soils provide excellent drainage and contribute to the wine's structure and minerality. Grapes are carefully hand-delivered in small boxes, then destemmed and gently crushed before fermentation in stainless steel tanks with skin contact for full colour and flavour extraction. The wine is aged for a minimum of six months in stainless steel with no oak influence, preserving freshness and varietal character.

Tasting Notes

The nose is expressive with ripe red fruits, hints of lavender, and a subtle touch of butter. On the palate, the wine is soft and silky with velvety tannins and fresh fruit flavours. The finish is balanced and lingering, highlighting the wine's delicate fruit character and refined texture.

Perfect Pairings

A versatile food wine, pairing beautifully with pasta, red meat with light sauces, grilled lamb, and Mediterranean vegetables. Also excellent alongside soft cheeses, charcuterie, or a clas

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
