A beautifully expressive white Rioja from old bush vines near Haro, showcasing the richness and minerality of Viura blended with Tempranillo Blanco and other traditional white grapes. Textural and complex, this wine balances ripe fruit and spicy oak with freshness and length, offering one of the finest examples of modern white Rioja.

Meet the Producer

Founded in 1886 by Ángel Gómez de Arteche, Gómez Cruzado is one of Rioja’s historic bodegas, based in Haro at the foot of the Montes Obarenes. Today, the winery is renowned for its meticulous vineyard selection and a style that marries tradition with innovation.

Production

Fruit is sourced from chalky-clay soils rich in limestone, near Haro where the River Ebro enters Rioja, bringing cooler temperatures ideal for white grape varieties.

The Blend

is predominantly Viura (65%) with 25% Tempranillo Blanco and a small proportion of Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca, and Calagrano. Grapes are hand-harvested into small 200kg crates and carefully sorted at the winery. Around 80% of the must is fermented and aged on fine lees in new French oak barrels, while the remaining 20% rests on lees in egg-shaped concrete tanks to add freshness and texture.

Tasting Notes

Complex and layered with minerality from old vine Viura, supported by ripe orchard fruit, hints of spice, and smooth oak integration. The palate is textured yet fresh, with superb balance and a long, rich finish. The 2021 vintage is considered one of the best ever for this cuvée, delivering exceptional quality and poise. Food Match A superb partner for full-flavoured, cream-based dishes, from roast poultry in rich sauces to creamy seafood pastas. Grape Varieties: Viura 65%, Tempranillo Blanco 25%, Malvasía (with small amounts of Garnacha Blanca & Calagrano)

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
