Gust Petaluma Gap Chardonnay is sourced from two vineyards. The majority of the fruit comes from our Tolay Vista Vineyard, south of Stage Gulch Road in the rolling hills at the base of Wildcat Mountain. Planted to Clone 17 and Clone 4, these vines experience less stress and produce slightly larger yields in a more sheltered position, with harvest typically occurring in mid-October, which is exceptionally late for Chardonnay compared to most regions. The balance of the fruit comes from Diamond Pile Ranch on Old Adobe Road, along the eastern boundary of the Petaluma Gap. Planted in 2001, the steepest block of this vineyard is home to Clone 76 on 5bb rootstock. Heavy clay soils here naturally stress the vines, yielding a small crop of concentrated fruit with thick skins and a long ripening season. 2025 was a very cold vintage overall. It began with an uneven bud break after a wet winter and was either wet or cold through July further excerbating the uneveness. August saved us with near perfect consistent days between 80-95F. September bought heat and rain cycles which made picking challenging but work done in June/July really paid off with open canopies meaning no disease impact and picking at lower sugars with amazing flavors and brilliant acidity.
