The description below is the retailer’s own wording.

In Pommard, the Clos de la Commaraine has a character all of its own: a historic climat in the Côte de Beaune, where the clay-limestone soils, rich in iron oxides, give the Pinot Noir deep roots and a robust structure. This Premier Cru is distinguished by its blend of body, intensity and finesse – a character that fully reveals itself with age. The 2009 vintage has now undergone nearly two decades of development. The fruit takes on a more mature character, giving way to a complex aromatic profile where notes of cherry in brandy, ripe plum, woodland undergrowth, dried leaves, delicate leather and blond tobacco intermingle. On the palate, time is likely to have softened the tannins and rounded out the body, whilst tertiary nuances prolong the tasting experience with depth and subtlety. A profile to be savoured by lovers of mature Burgundies, where complexity takes precedence over the brilliance of the fruit. For a special occasion or a gathering of connoisseurs, this bottle combines the prestige of a historic Premier Cru, the maturity of an older vintage and the rare pleasure of discovering a Pinot Noir with a deeper, more mature and nuanced character.
