Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Ports are an increasingly popular style, and this unfiltered 2017 from Krohn exemplifies the elegance and richness of a single vintage Port. LBVs are made from just one year’s crop (when the vintage is declared), allowing the wine to express the unique character and climatic conditions of that year.

Meet the Producer

Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn, initially shipping Ports to Scandinavia. Today, the house continues to craft high-quality Ports with precision, tradition, and a focus on expressing the distinctive character of each declared vintage.

Production

Grapes are sourced from Krohn's Quinta do Retiro Novo estate and trusted neighbouring vineyards. After fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 4–6 years before bottling. Krohn’s LBV Ports are unfiltered and unfined, meaning they may throw a natural sediment. Decanting is recommended before serving to enjoy the wine at its best.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby in colour with aromas of spicy black fruits. The palate is layered with vibrant plum and blackberry, accented by warm spice, fresh acidity, and firm tannins. Full-bodied and rich, with a long, lingering finish that showcases the elegance of the vintage. Food match Pairs beautifully with blue cheeses, mature cheddar, or a slab of dark chocolate. Grape Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
