A mature, versatile port with deep red colour and fair concentration of warm, plummy fruit; aromatic and fruity, quite rich and full with soft finish. Krohn are a small family-owned Port house run by brother and sister Jose and Iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category. The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia. In the Vineyard The traditional grape varieties are sourced from Krohn's own vineyards, and supplemented by fruit from neighbouring farms, in the Douro demarcated region situated in northern Portugal comprising the Douro Valley and it's tributaries. Here old vines are planted in schistous soils. In the Winery Fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel vats, which is interrupted by the addition of grape spirit to preserve a certain degree of natural sweetness. Maturation - aged for 2 to 3 years in oak barrels.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
