A rich and full-bodied Ruby Port with a smooth, soft finish, Krohn Ruby stands out for its maturity and versatility. It offers a concentrated expression of fresh, plummy fruit with subtle spice, making it a top choice among entry-level premium Ruby Ports.
Meet the Producer
Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn, who initially shipped Port to Scandinavia. Today, the house continues to craft classic Ports that blend tradition, quality, and consistency, sourcing grapes from their own vineyards and trusted neighbouring growers.
Production
Traditional Douro grape varieties are sourced from Krohn’s estate and supplemented by fruit from partner vineyards. The vines are planted in schistous soils and carefully harvested. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, interrupted by the addition of grape spirit to preserve natural sweetness. This Ruby Port is a blend of different grapes, vineyards, and vintages, matured for 2 to 3 years in large, seasoned oak barrels.
Tasting Notes
Deep red in colour, with aromas of ripe plums, cherries, and hints of spice. The palate is lively yet rich, full of cherry and blackcurrant notes, and finishes soft and approachable. Food match Perfect as a digestif with hard cheeses, chestnuts, cashews, or hazelnuts. Also pairs beautifully with summer pudding, fresh berries, and chocolate desserts. Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
