The keynotes of 2016 are purity and refinement. The Vintage Port displays elegance and poise, a wonderful purity of fruit and tannins of great quality… The 2016s are likely to become rarities in future, particularly given the trend towards enjoying Vintage Ports young.” – Adrian Bridge, Krohn MD A powerful yet refined Vintage Port from Wiese & Krohn, the 2016 vintage exemplifies purity, elegance, and classic Douro character. Deep ruby-black in colour, with vibrant red fruit aromas, this wine offers both immediate appeal and exceptional aging potential, making it a prized addition to any collection.
Meet the Producer
Founded in 1865 by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn, Wiese & Krohn has a long heritage of producing high-quality Ports. The house combines traditional Douro techniques with careful vineyard management to craft wines of elegance, depth, and longevity.
Production
The 2016 Douro vintage began with a wet spring, followed by a hot, dry summer and ideal conditions at harvest, allowing for slow and even grape maturation. Grapes from traditional varieties were fermented in open granite lagares and fermentation was interrupted with grape spirit to preserve natural sweetness. The wine was aged in traditional ‘pipes’ and larger casks to develop complexity while retaining freshness and elegance.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-black with a narrow purple rim. Aromas of pure, vibrant red fruits, including cranberry, raspberry, and cherry, complemented by notes of plum and apricot. Subtle hints of black pepper, nutmeg, mocha, cedar, and balsamic herbs add depth. On the palate, dense, mouth-filling tannins provide structure, while black woodland fruit flows into a long, elegant finish. Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
