The wine is made to emphasise purity of fruit, elegance, and balance, with minimal intervention to highlight the character of the Kumeu terroir.
Meet the Producer
Kumeu River is one of New Zealand’s most respected wineries, renowned for producing world-class Chardonnays that reflect the cool-climate conditions of the Kumeu region. The winery has built its reputation over decades for precise viticulture and meticulous winemaking practices.
Production
The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in 100% French oak barrels, with 100% undergoing malolactic fermentation. No new oak is used, relying instead on 1- and 2-year-old barrels to provide balance and subtle complexity. The wine matures for 11 months in barrel, resulting in a refined, elegant style.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with fragrant lemon aromas accented by hints of white peach. On the palate it is silky, balanced, and fresh, with a precise citrus-driven finish. This Chardonnay is approachable now but will continue to develop beautifully over 4–6 years of bottle age. Food match Pairs beautifully with lightly cooked fish, seafood, roasted chicken, and creamy pasta dishes. Grape Chardonnay 100% Vinification Hand harvested, whole-bunch pressed, indigenous yeast fermentation, 100% barrel fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation, matured 11 months in French oak barrels.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
