Le Burg holds a unique place in Marcel Deiss's world. This historic vineyard, once cultivated by the Knights Templar, sits on a terroir of Keuper marl intermixed with cold lacustrine clay. Sheltered from the direct influences of the valley and benefiting from a due south aspect, it allows for slow ripening which, depending on the vintage, encourages the development of noble rot on the traditional Alsatian grape varieties grown in mixed plantings. This alchemy gives rise to a wine of rare depth, built to stand the test of time. Le Burg is not a wine that seduces immediately. It expresses itself with restraint, almost with solemnity, gradually revealing an impressive body where density never conflicts with freshness. The palate is full-bodied and enveloping, underpinned by a mineral tension reminiscent of damp rock, graphite and an almost iodine-like salinity. More than the fruit, it is the terroir that takes centre stage, with a contained energy and a texture sculpted by the acidity. Its long, vibrant finish lingers with a noble bitterness reminiscent of great wines with ageing potential. Still reserved in its youth, Le Burg requires time to reveal its full complexity. It then rewards patience with a rare emotional depth!
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
