Luna Gaia Nerello Mascalese ‘Logistilla’ is an elegant and characterful red wine from Sicily, shaped by volcanic soils and a strong maritime influence. Made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, an indigenous grape historically cultivated on the slopes of Mount Etna and in the County of Mascali, the wine reflects both its dramatic landscape and deep cultural roots. Naturally fermented with wild yeasts, it captures purity of fruit, savoury complexity and a distinctly mineral edge, resulting in a refined yet expressive Sicilian red with length and balance.

Meet the Producer

Luna Gaia is the result of a collaboration between the Cantina Orsogna cooperative and BioGaia, a collective of biodynamic farmers in Sicily. The project combines sustainable viticulture with a strong sense of storytelling and heritage. Each label pays tribute to L’Opera dei Pupi Siciliana , the traditional Sicilian puppet theatre recognised by UNESCO, and draws inspiration from Ludovico Ariosto’s epic poem Orlando Furioso , weaving culture and history into every bottle. Vineyard The vineyards benefit from Sicily’s unique growing conditions, where volcanic soils contribute minerality and finesse, while the island’s Mediterranean climate ensures full ripening. These factors allow Nerello Mascalese to develop aromatic intensity, fine structure and an unmistakable sense of place.

Production

The wine is produced using spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, allowing the grape’s true character to shine through. Minimal intervention in the cellar preserves freshness, complexity and the authentic expression of the variety and terroir.

Tasting Notes

The nose is enticing and aromatic, showing ripe red fruits and floral notes of violets. On the palate, the wine is generous yet elegant, combining rustic earthy tones with rich red fruit and dried spice nuances. The finish is savoury, persistent and refined, underpinned by gentle tannins and mineral freshness. Food Match A natural partner for Mediterranean cuisine

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
