Pian delle Vigne Vignaferrovia 2019 is ruby red in color with garnet hues. The nose reveals its complex and pleasant character: notes of cocoa, vanilla and tobacco lead to hints of red fruit, in particular black cherries, plum jam, apricots and blood oranges, aromas typical of the Sangiovese berry. Its bouquet is completed by balsamic notes of rosemary and sage. The palate is vibrant and enjoyable, it opens supple with notes of chocolate, then evolves into elegant and fresh. The long rich finish offers silky velvety impressions on the palate accompanied by notes of red fruit, spices and cocoa. The nose is a mix of tart and sweet cherries and berries, with peonies and rose petals overhead. The palate is denser, with notes of strawberry fruit leather and dried Mission fig on a foundation of dirt, but the floral and citrus elements still make themselves known. Grippy tannins lift a pop of acid and pepper on the finish. There is a bright intensity of dark fruits and floral notes in this wine, though reductive at very first sniff. The cherries are lush and ripe, almost spirit-like, with chocolaty depth. Firm on the palate, this has medium to full body, crisp acidity and thick, chalky tannins that deserve time to soften their sternness. Best after 2025. Broad and fleshy, this red exhibits black cherry, plum, earth and forest floor flavors, supported by a wide tract of tannins. A muscular style, with a rough grain offset by the ripe fruit. Shows fine length, but it will take a few years to tame its burly tannins. Best from 2028 through 2043. 1,050 cases made, 30 cases imported.

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
