Marques de Murrieta Gran Reserva is one of Rioja's most celebrated and long-lived red wines, produced by one of the appellation's oldest and most respected bodegas, established in 1852. Concentrated, refined and built for the long term, this is a Gran Reserva of exceptional quality from the legendary Ygay estate in Rioja Alta. Vineyard & Production
Sourced from the Ygay estate in Rioja Alta, with vineyards ranging from 320 to 485 metres altitude. The 2016 vintage was a warmer year that particularly benefited the higher altitude parcels, producing wines of concentration and richness with a fine line of acidity. Grapes are de-stemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 9 days with constant skin contact, with regular pumping over and punching down for gentle colour and aroma extraction. The wine is then aged for 27 months in 225-litre American oak barrels before bottling.
