Marqués de Riscal Reserva is a classic expression of Rioja, crafted from Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo grapes grown in the region’s limestone and clay soils. Aged for two years in American oak barrels, this medium-bodied red showcases the hallmark smoothness and balance that define traditional Rioja wines.
The Blend
of ripe dark berries, cherries, and balsamic notes is complemented by subtle layers of spice and vanilla from the oak, leading to a long, fresh finish.
Meet the Producer
Founded in 1858, Marqués de Riscal is one of Rioja’s oldest and most respected wineries. The Marqués, inspired by his time in Bordeaux, brought French winemaking expertise to Spain, producing the first bottled Rioja in 1862. Over the years, the estate has earned international acclaim, including the prestigious Diploma of Honour at the Bordeaux Exhibition in 1895. Today, Marqués de Riscal continues its tradition of innovation from its iconic “City of Wine” complex, which includes a cutting-edge winery and a hotel designed by architect Frank O. Gehry.
Production
Grapes are hand-harvested from estate vineyards and vinified in stainless steel before ageing for 24 months in American oak barrels. The wine is then bottle-aged to develop balance and complexity while maintaining Rioja’s characteristic freshness and elegance.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the nose reveals ripe dark berry and cherry aromas intertwined with balsamic, spice, and vanilla notes. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a lingering, harmonious finish. Food match Pairs beautifully with grilled or roast lamb, rabbit, pigeon, and pork dishes. Grape Tempranillo 90%, Graciano 5%, Mazuelo 5%
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
