Source-supplied bottle description

Meerlust Pinot Noir is a refined and elegantly structured expression of Pinot Noir from the coastal Stellenbosch region, grown on granitic soils at the Compagniesdrift terroir. The cooling maritime influence of False Bay slows ripening and preserves natural acidity, producing a Pinot Noir of real finesse, complexity and layered character.

Why You'll Love It

Meerlust Estate has been owned by the Myburgh family since 1756, and under the guidance of eighth-generation Hannes Myburgh and winemaker Wim Truter, the estate combines centuries of tradition with modern winemaking expertise to craft elegant, terroir-driven wines from Stellenbosch. Pinot Noir is one of the most demanding varieties to grow and vinify, and Meerlust's Compagniesdrift terroir, with its granitic soils and cooling sea influence, is ideally suited to producing Pinot of real distinction. This is Cape Pinot Noir at its most refined.

Vineyard & Production

Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness from selected blocks at the Compagniesdrift terroir, then destemmed and gently crushed into small fermenters. Fermentation proceeds with minimal extraction to preserve elegance and finesse. Post-fermentation, the wine is matured in a combination of new and second-fill 300-litre barrels to develop structure and complexity before bottling.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant garnet in colour with a youthful appearance. Lifted floral perfume on the nose with brooding red berries, earthy wild mushrooms and hints of spice. The palate displays pure Pinot fruit, red cherry and musk flavours, fresh acidity, layered complexity and fine, powdery tannins on the finish.

Perfect Pairings

A wonderfully versatile Pinot Noir. Excellent with duck, Parma ham, roasted chicken and grilled line fish. Also a natural partner for tuna, wild mushrooms and traditional cheeses.

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
