A vibrant and approachable German Pinot Noir from the Pfalz region, delivering pure, bright red fruit and classic varietal character at excellent value. This Spätburgunder (the German name for Pinot Noir) is fresh, elegant, and food-friendly, offering a fine example of why German Pinot Noir has become increasingly sought-after in recent years.
Meet the Producer
Weingut Messmer, based in Burrweiler in the Pfalz, was founded by Herbert and Elizabeth Messmer in 1960 and has grown into one of the region’s most respected family estates. Now run by the next generation, the winery is known for producing authentic wines that reflect the diversity of the Pfalz terroir. Their focus on precision, quality, and sustainability has earned them a strong reputation both in Germany and internationally.
Production
The fruit is carefully selected and vinified to highlight the natural purity of Pinot Noir. Around 70% of the wine is matured in stainless steel to preserve fresh fruit expression, while the remaining 30% spends 3–4 months in large old oak barrels (500–900L) to add subtle complexity through micro-oxygenation. This balance between freshness and gentle maturation results in a Pinot Noir that is both youthful and expressive, with depth and texture.
Tasting Notes
Fragrant aromas of ripe strawberries and red cherries, lifted by a delicate touch of spice. On the palate, juicy red berry and bramble fruit flavours are complemented by lively acidity and silky tannins. The wine is elegant, balanced, and thoroughly enjoyable, offering a fine showcase of German Spätburgunder. Food match Ideal with Chinese-inspired dishes such as crispy duck pancakes or char siu pork, but equally delicious with roast chicken, earthy mushroom risotto, or mild cheeses. Grape Pinot Noir 100%
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
