A benchmark example of young, unoaked Nebbiolo from the historic Martinenga vineyard in Barbaresco. This is Nebbiolo in its purest form – fresh, elegant and approachable, with lifted fruit, floral notes and the hallmark structure of Piemonte’s most noble grape variety. A true introduction to Nebbiolo that balances character and finesse.
Meet the Producer
Marchesi di Grésy is widely regarded as one of Piemonte’s top producers, renowned for their uncompromising quality and their role in defining Barbaresco’s identity. With four separate estates, the family’s jewel is undoubtedly Martinenga – a monopole vineyard in the heart of Barbaresco that has long been recognised as a benchmark for the region.
Production
Sourced from 11 hectares of Nebbiolo planted on the Martinenga estate, with vines facing south-west at 280 metres above sea level. The soils are calcareous with touches of sand, perfectly suited to Nebbiolo. Vines are Guyot-trained, with densities between 3,000–4,500 per hectare, and carefully managed throughout the growing season with pruning, bud control, leaf plucking, and green harvesting where necessary. Grapes are hand-harvested in early October, then destemmed and crushed before maceration on skins (submerged cap) for 6–7 days at 27–29°C. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, where it remains until bottling in early spring to preserve freshness and varietal purity.
Tasting Notes
Expressive aromas of strawberry, redcurrant, and rose petals are layered with savoury, gamey notes. The palate shows crushed wild berries, smoky nuances and a fine, firm tannic backbone balanced by refreshing acidity. A youthful yet classic style of Nebbiolo, showcasing both vibrancy and depth. Food match Ideal with roast lamb, hearty stews or rich meat dishes that complement Nebbiolo’s tannins and fresh acidity. Grape Nebbiolo 100%
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
