Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. The Portuguese Niepoort winery has been located in the Douro Valley since 1842, when it was founded by Dutchman Franciscus Marius Niepoort. Today, the estate is managed by Dirk Niepoort and is widely renowned for its excellent wines. Niepoort Poeirinho is made with grapes of the indigenous Baga grape variety, harvested from centuries-old vines in the Bairrada area. Here, the cool, humid climate influenced by the Atlantic and the clay-limestone soils creates ideal conditions for this grape variety to express its full potential. Poeirinho is the ancient name for Baga, a tribute from Dirk Niepoort to this grape variety for which he holds a great passion. After manual harvesting, fermentation traditionally takes place in lagares (cement vats) and partly in wooden vats. The finished wine then ages in used barriques for over two years. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep color with light purple hues. Its aromatic profile is complex and fragrant, with floral and fruity notes, hints of cherry and rhubarb, followed by spicy, balsamic, and tobacco notes. On the palate, it is rich and distinctive, expressive and concentrated, with crisp acidity and velvety tannins. The finish is long and delicately spiced. Try it with braised goat or roast lamb.

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
