The Senior Tawny from Niepoort is a distinguished Port that embodies both tradition and refinement. Ageing predominantly in small oak barrels in the lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia, it undergoes a slow oxidation process through the wood’s natural pores, resulting in a wine of elegance, depth, and balanced complexity.
Meet the Producer
Niepoort, a historic family-owned winery in the Douro and Porto regions, is known for combining innovation with tradition, producing Ports that showcase the region’s unique character while respecting centuries of winemaking expertise.
Production
Sourced from low-yielding vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro Valley, the grapes are mainly trodden in lagares before ageing in small old oak casks. The use of these barrels ensures a gentle oxygenation that develops richness from older wines while retaining freshness from younger wines.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a brick red-tawny hue with a velvety mouthfeel. Its blend of older wines adds depth and richness, while younger wines contribute freshness and layered complexity, creating a harmonious and refined profile. Food match Perfect with cheeses and chocolate-based desserts, The Senior Tawny can also be enjoyed as an aperitif, served at room temperature or lightly chilled. Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
