Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region in Spain, in Peñafiel and Anguix, Bodegas Protos was founded in 1927 and is widely considered one of the most prestigious wineries in the entire country. The company produces a wide range of wines that reflect the Ribera del Duero region's diverse soils and climates. The company's philosophy is based on a modern approach and a focus on innovation, while deeply respecting the area's ancient winemaking traditions. Protos Verdejo Reserva is a white wine produced exclusively with Verdejo grapes from vineyards scattered around the Douro River, part of the estate's 1,400 hectares. Here, the vines, over thirty years old, enjoy a Mediterranean climate with continental influences. After manual harvesting and a period of low-temperature maceration, fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels. The finished wine then ages on the lees in French oak barrels and then in the bottle for over a year. On the nose, Protos Verdejo Reserva reveals a broad, complex, and intense aromatic profile with tropical and citrus notes, interspersed with herbaceous aromas and hints of vanilla. On the palate, it is rich, with a creamy, velvety texture and vibrant acidity. It is dry, expressive, and balanced, with a long, fresh finish. Try it with roasted swordfish or fish chowder.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
