Fonte Souto Estate White expresses the unique character of its high-altitude terroir. The freshness and balance derive from the elevation of the São Mamede Range, while concentration comes from mature, low-yielding vines. Barrel fermentation sur lie with bâtonnage lends further complexity, depth, and structure.

The Blend

showcases Arinto (75%), Portugal’s finest white grape, complemented by a smaller proportion of Verdelho (25%).

Winemaking

Hand-harvested grapes were sorted manually, gently crushed, and lightly pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation began in stainless steel before part of the must was transferred to 500-litre French oak barrels, where lees stirring (bâtonnage) added complexity and texture. Ageing involved a blend of new French and Central European oak (55%), second- and third-year barrels (40%), and stainless steel (5%). Bottled in July 2022. Winemakers Charles Symington, Pedro Correia, and José Daniel Soares. Tasting Note Delicate aromas of flint and light smoke give way to citrus, peach, apricot, and subtle vanilla, lifted by floral hints of wild white flowers. The palate is fresh and layered, combining barrel complexity with the vibrant acidity of the mountainous terroir. The finish is elegant, poised, and expansive, confirming this as a stunning mountain white with ageing potential. Storage & Serving Ready to drink upon release but with good ageing capacity. Serve chilled at 10–12°C.

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
