Quinta do Vesúvio, one of the Douro’s most historic estates, dates back to 1827 and features north- and west-facing vineyards rising from 110 to 450 metres. The 137-hectare vineyard, on predominantly schist soils with small granite outcrops, produces some of the most balanced and elegant wines in the region. Comboio do Vesúvio, named after the estate’s historic railway station, is a fresh, unoaked red highlighting youthful fruit and vibrant aromatics.
Winemaking
Hand-picked grapes are carefully sorted, destemmed, and gravity-fed into fermentation vats. Daily monitoring of maceration and temperature ensures optimal extraction of fruit flavours and aromas. This unoaked wine is crafted to be enjoyed young while retaining subtle ageing potential. Winemakers Charles Symington, Pedro Correia, and Hugo Almeida. Grape Varieties 45% Touriga Nacional 35% Touriga Franca 10% Tinta Roriz 10% Tinta Barroca Storage & Serving Ready to drink upon release, best served at 16–18°C.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, hearty stews, cured sausages, and soft cheeses. Tasting Note Bright, youthful red fruit dominates, with expressive aromas of cherries, plums, and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is fresh, balanced, and harmonious, with smooth tannins and a lingering, vibrant finish.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
