Quinta dos Carvalhais Dão Encruzado is a refined white from the Dão region of Portugal, made from 100% Encruzado sourced from the estate’s high-altitude vineyards planted on granite soils. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and partially fermented in new French oak barrels of varying sizes, with frequent bâtonnage for six months to enhance texture, while the remainder ferments in stainless steel, resulting in a citrus-yellow wine with aromas of peach, nectarine, jasmine, and orange blossom, a crisp and intense palate, and a balanced, persistent finish.

Meet the Producer

Quinta dos Carvalhais, acquired by Sogrape in 1988, is credited with revitalising Dão wines and preserving indigenous varieties such as Encruzado. Winemaker Beatriz Cabral de Almeida continues this legacy, crafting elegant, expressive wines that reflect the region’s unique terroir.

Production

Grapes are harvested by hand into small boxes and gently pressed. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel and new French oak barrels of varying sizes, with frequent lees stirring to build texture. The wine is aged six months in oak barrels and stainless steel before bottling, preserving freshness and depth.

Tasting Notes

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
