A wine that truly embodies the elegance and finesse of Northern Rhône, the Domaine du Monteillet Les Grandes Chaillées Condrieu 2023 is a shining example of why Viognier from this appellation is so revered. Sourced from six exceptional parcels on the steep, granite terraces of Chavanay, Saint Michel sur Rhône, and Vérin, the Chaillées vines are supported by traditional dry stone walls that help define their unique terroir. With meticulous hand-harvesting, gentle destemming, and careful skin contact before pressing, this Condrieu captures the essence of the region: mineral-driven, aromatic, and layered with complexity. Fermented and aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak, the wine preserves its fresh, primary fruit while promising beautifully honeyed secondary notes as it matures over the next decade.

Meet the Producer

Stéphane Montez’s family have been cultivating vines in the Northern Rhône for ten generations. Today, their 23-hectare estate combines tradition and modern precision to craft some of the region’s finest Viognier.

Production

Grapes are destemmed with nine hours of skin contact, followed by gentle pressing and fermentation in oak barriques and demi-muids. The wine is aged for 11 months with regular battonage in 75% 1- and 2-year-old fûts and 25% new French oak, without racking or added sulphur, preserving the purity and vibrancy of the fruit.

Tasting Notes

Elegantly perfumed with fresh floral and stone fruit aromas, the palate reveals a delicate minerality and layers of complexity. Still young, it bursts with primary Viognier character and will develop wonderfully honeyed secondary notes over the next ten years. Food match Perfect with grilled prawns, turbot with hollandaise, or even a luxurious macaroni cheese – a wine to enjoy without restraint. Grape Viognier 100%

Evidence boundary

This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
