Taylor’s Vargellas Vintage Port is a refined and elegant expression from one of the Douro’s most celebrated single estates. Quinta de Vargellas is renowned for producing Vintage Ports of exceptional purity and finesse, with a distinctive aromatic profile and remarkable ageing potential. The 2019 vintage captures the hallmark precision and vibrancy for which Vargellas is famed. Produced under relatively cool conditions for the Douro, the wine displays outstanding freshness, crisp acidity and beautifully defined fruit. Slightly lower yields contributed to excellent concentration and colour, resulting in a Vintage Port of balance, clarity and expressive elegance.
Meet the Producer
Founded in 1692, Taylor’s is one of the oldest and most respected names in Port. Under the stewardship of winemaker David Guimaraens, Taylor’s continues to set benchmarks for Vintage Port, combining tradition, meticulous vineyard management and long-term vision.
Production
Grapes are sourced exclusively from Quinta de Vargellas and harvested at optimal ripeness. Traditional winemaking methods are employed to preserve fruit purity, structure and aromatic intensity. The wine is bottled after two years in cask to retain its power, freshness and ageing potential.
Tasting Notes
Deep purple-black in colour with a narrow red rim and magenta highlights. The nose is refined and precise, revealing pure raspberry and cherry fruit with fresh grapey notes, complemented by subtle hints of bracken, wild herbs and floral nuances. On the palate, the wine is compact and racy, with fine, linear tannins energised by vibrant acidity. The fruit remains focused and expressive through a long, persistent finish, showcasing the elegance and definition that define Vargellas. Food match An excellent partner for walnuts, blue-veined and other richly flavoured cheeses, as well as dried fruits such as figs or apricots. Equally rewarding enjoyed on its own, savoured slowly in good company.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
