Meet the Producer
Avondale Wine is a pioneering estate located in Paarl, Western Cape, where biodynamic and organic principles guide every aspect of viticulture and winemaking. The 160-hectare farm has been under cultivation for over 300 years and today produces wines that reflect both the natural rhythms of the land and a commitment to sustainability. The name “La Luna” pays homage to the moon’s influence on biodynamic farming, symbolising harmony, timing, and subtle power.
Production
La Luna is Avondale’s signature Bordeaux blend, composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified with minimal intervention to preserve purity and terroir expression. The wine is matured in oak and bottled under cork, with a focus on elegance and ageing potential. The 2017 vintage benefited from ideal ripening conditions, producing a wine of depth and finesse.
Tasting Notes
Dark purple in colour, La Luna opens with classic berry aromas and a touch of tobacco leaf. The palate reveals layers of mineral-driven fruit, gentle tannins, and a lovely freshness that lifts the wine. Supple and restrained, it offers complexity and poise, with the potential to evolve gracefully over time. Food match Perfect with cider and maple syrup glazed pork chops. Its elegant structure and savoury depth also pair beautifully with roasted meats, root vegetables, or mature cheeses. Grape Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
