A young and elegant Tawny Port, Krohn Tawny is lighter in colour than a Ruby Port but retains a fruity, refined style. Smooth and approachable, it offers rich red fruit flavours balanced with nutty and caramel notes, making it a versatile choice for aperitifs or dessert pairings.
Meet the Producer
Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn, who initially shipped Port to Scandinavia. Today, the house continues to craft classic Ports with a focus on quality and traditional methods, blending fruit from their own vineyards with carefully selected neighbouring estates.
Production
Grapes are grown on schistous soils at Krohn’s estate and nearby vineyards. Vinification takes place in closed fermentation tanks, with fermentation interrupted by the addition of grape brandy to preserve natural sweetness. The wine is then matured in seasoned 600-litre oak casks, which impart subtle complexity while maintaining the bright fruit character.
Tasting Notes
Tawny-red in colour, with aromas of caramel, butterscotch, currants, and gentle spice. The palate is smooth and sweet, displaying rich red fruit flavours complemented by a soft nutty undertone. Full-bodied yet balanced, with an elegant, lingering finish. Food match Serve slightly chilled as an aperitif during warm months, or at room temperature after a meal with nuts and a cheese board. Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
