Niepoort LBV 2020 is a rich and expressive Late Bottled Vintage Port from Portugal’s Douro Valley. Carefully aged in large wooden vats, this LBV combines the structure of a Vintage Port with the accessibility of an earlier-drinking style. The grapes are sourced from low-yield, high-quality vineyards in the Cima Corgo region and handled with precision to preserve freshness and aromatic intensity.
Meet the Producer
Niepoort, established in 1842, is renowned for producing elegantly styled Ports that balance power and finesse. The estate remains family-run, maintaining a focus on traditional techniques while embracing sustainable vineyard practices.
Production
Grapes are hand-harvested and trodden in granite lagares before fermentation. The wine is aged in large oak barrels, or “pipas,” in Vila Nova de Gaia, allowing for gentle maturation that develops complexity while maintaining freshness. Bottling occurs after four to six years of barrel ageing, resulting in a balanced, approachable LBV.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with a vibrant bouquet of fresh figs and subtle floral notes, complemented by red berries and a gentle spiciness. On the palate, ripe fruit gradually gives way to more dry, structured elements, supported by refreshing acidity. The finish is long, smooth, and layered, with integrated tannins that give elegance and balance. Food match Pairs beautifully with dark chocolate desserts, as well as Cheddar, Gouda, and Brie cheeses. Also excellent with aromatic red meat dishes, venison, lamb, or pepper steak. Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
